Yaroslav Amosov has a fight. He just isn’t telling anyone who it’s against yet.
The former Bellator welterweight world champion posted on X early Friday, Nov. 6 (01:27 GMT) that his bout agreement has been signed, adding that “news will follow soon” with a fist emoji tacked on the end. That was the whole post. No opponent, no date, no event, no promotion named. Just confirmation that the paperwork is finished and the next step is an official announcement.
The news account Championship Rounds picked it up about 20 minutes later and pushed it out to its followers with a siren emoji and a pair of eyes. That’s about as close as this story gets to a reveal right now. Everyone is refreshing and waiting.

Where Amosov sits
The most recent snapshot of the welterweight picture comes from the UFC Meta Rankings that MMA Mania published on Nov. 3, after the UFC Halloween card at Meta Apex in Las Vegas. Amosov sits at No. 13 at 170 pounds there, in a division Islam Makhachev rules as champion.
The names around him are worth a look, because that’s usually where opponents come from. Joaquin Buckley is directly above him at No. 12, with Kamaru Usman at No. 11 and Leon Edwards at No. 10. Below him is the newest arrival in the Top 15, undefeated Contender Series graduate Jacobe Smith, who jumped into the No. 14 spot after beating veteran Randy Brown. Kevin Holland slid one place to No. 15 as a result, and Daniel Rodriguez fell off the list entirely.
The top of the division belongs to Carlos Prates at No. 1, followed by Ian Machado Garry, Michael Morales, Jack Della Maddalena and Sean Brady. Amosov has a long way to climb from 13, but the people standing between him and that group include two former champions in Usman and Edwards plus Belal Muhammad at No. 7, so the ladder at least has some famous rungs on it.

The next rankings shuffle is expected after UFC Vegas 124, set for Saturday, Nov. 7 at Meta Apex in Las Vegas. MMA Mania flagged heavyweight as the division most likely to move after that card, so the welterweight picture should hold steady while we wait on Amosov’s announcement.
My take
I’m going to pitch one, and to be clear this is me daydreaming, not reporting. Give me Amosov against Jacobe Smith. Smith just crashed the Top 15 off the Contender Series pipeline with an unbeaten record, and he’s sitting one spot below a former Bellator champion. That’s a real test for the kid and a real statement chance for the veteran. I love a Contender Series grad getting thrown straight at somebody with a world title on his résumé, because that’s where you find out whether the hype has a ceiling. If it’s Buckley instead, I’m also fine, since Buckley at No. 12 is the obvious step up and nobody gets a free night in that fight. Amosov signed his part. Now somebody needs to put the name on the poster.
