Foster Doubted Navarrete Ever Wanted Him, Then Both Made Weight in San Antonio

Emanuel Navarrete came in at 130 and O'Shaquie Foster at 129.8 for a three-belt super featherweight unification that Top Rank streamed live on DAZN from Texas.

Three championship belts on a locker room bench beside hand tape and gloves

O’Shaquie Foster and Emanuel Navarrete met Saturday night, October 24, in San Antonio with three super featherweight belts on the line. The sources available at press time confirm that the fight went off live on DAZN under the Top Rank banner. They do not include an official result. The scorecards, the knockdowns and the decision will get their own story once the numbers are in hand. What the record does show is how the week built toward the opening bell, and an undercard that gave Top Rank’s social team plenty to shout about.

The last hurdle came Friday. MiddleEasy reported that Navarrete weighed in at 130 pounds and Foster came in two-tenths lighter at 129.8. Both cleared the super featherweight limit, so the unification stayed intact. In a division where belts have a way of getting split across promoters and sanctioning bodies, having three of them in one ring is rare enough to matter.

The edge in this matchup was mostly Foster’s doing. Two days before the weigh-in, he told MiddleEasy he had doubts about how interested Navarrete had been in fighting him earlier. Fighters say things like that every fight week, but the line carried extra weight from Foster. He has spent much of his career being the guy promoters had to be talked into. Top Rank formally announced the bout at a press conference streamed on Thursday, October 22.

When Foster arrived at the arena, Top Rank posted him walking in under the caption “COLD AS THEY COME” and called it his biggest night yet. That’s a fair read. Navarrete, El Vaquero, has been one of the company’s most reliable volume punchers for years. A unification against him is the kind of fight that reshapes how people talk about the guy across the ring.

The undercard, which Top Rank billed as a Texas-sized fight night, delivered moments of its own. Top Rank posted a clip of a barrage from Contreras on the early portion of the card. Later, the promotion said the fighter behind the @TheGhost_2016 account got the statement knockout he had promised, and its caption on the finish compared it to nightmare fuel. The sources don’t give the opponent, the round or the time. Those details will have to wait for the official results.

There was star power outside the ropes too. Vasyl Lomachenko sat ringside, and Top Rank welcomed him back with a post calling him a legend. A fighter posting as @OfficialBNorman, nicknamed The Assassin, came through Texas as well and gave his predictions for the main event on camera.

Quick take

I’m not going to tell you who won a fight when the paper in front of me doesn’t say. Here’s what I will say. Foster’s career has been one long argument that he belongs in rooms like this one, and he spent fight week acting like he believed it, from the jab at Navarrete’s earlier interest to that walk-in Top Rank chose to film. Navarrete is a pressure fighter who has made a living testing that kind of belief over 12 rounds. Whatever the judges turned in, the decision is the next thing we’ll publish.
