O'Shaquie Foster Takes a Weight Cut Shot After He and Navarrete Both Make 130

Foster came in at 129.8 and Emanuel Navarrete hit 130 on the nose ahead of tonight's three-belt super featherweight unification in San Antonio.

A boxing weigh-in scale with a towel draped over it under stage lights

“Looked like he had a bad weight cut.”

That line came out of O’Shaquie Foster’s mouth and landed on Top Rank’s official X account Friday afternoon, a few hours after the weigh-in stream wrapped in Texas. The promotion framed the clip as Foster’s final thoughts before his super featherweight unification. The caption doesn’t say who “he” is, and the post doesn’t add context, so treat it as what it is: a fighter talking on the eve of the biggest night of his career, with a camera rolling.

What the scale said is cleaner. Emanuel Navarrete weighed exactly 130 pounds and Foster came in at 129.8, according to MiddleEasy. Both men are under the limit, and three belts are on the line tonight in San Antonio.

This has been building all week. On Thursday, Foster questioned whether Navarrete had really wanted this fight earlier, per a MiddleEasy interview headline. Top Rank held the announcement press conference that same day, then circulated a closer look at the stare-down before Friday’s weigh-in. The promotion has been pushing Navarrete hard as “Mexico’s Fighting Cowboy,” and a night like this lives or dies on whether the Mexican crowd in San Antonio gets the war it came for.

A weight cut comment the night before can be gamesmanship or a genuine scouting note. Foster saw something on that stage, or wants Navarrete thinking he did. Either way, the answer shows up in the late rounds, when legs and lungs tell you how the last week of the camp actually went.

The undercard debut

Hector Luis Garcia makes his Top Rank debut on the undercard. The promotion billed it as the start of his quest for a world title and told him on X it was “Time to put on a show.” A debut on a unification card in front of a big Texas crowd is a real opportunity, and I’ll be watching to see whether he fights like a man auditioning for a title shot or one feeling out new surroundings.

The broadcast starts at 8 p.m. ET tonight on DAZN. If Foster’s read on the weigh-in is right, we’ll know by the middle rounds.
