The man who signs the checks at ONE Championship wants to sign a bout agreement too. Chairman and CEO Chatri Sityodtong said on the Khobsanam Podcast that he intends to fight at least once in his own promotion before he retires, according to a clip shared by @CSTodayNews on X.
The post that circulated the comments didn’t offer an opponent, a weight class, a date or a ruleset, and nothing in the clip as shared fills those gaps. It closed with an open challenge of its own: “Who’s stepping up to fight the CEO of ONE Championship?”
One of the most decorated names in the company’s history saw it and did a double take. Shinya Aoki, the former ONE lightweight champion, quote-posted the news on Friday with a short Japanese reaction, “なかなかにヤバい。” Loosely translated, he was calling it pretty wild. Aoki has watched a lot of strange things happen around ONE cages over the years. This one apparently got him.

A busy week around the Circle
The timing is something. Sityodtong’s comments surfaced the same day ONE ran The Inner Circle 37 at Lumpinee Stadium in Bangkok, where Tye Ruotolo needed 2:08 of Round 1 to submit Christian Lee and take the ONE Lightweight MMA World Title. Ruotolo, the reigning ONE Welterweight Submission Grappling World Champion, dropped Lee with a right hook and a left to the chin, moved through side control to mount, and took the back when Lee scrambled out. The rear-naked choke did the rest.
The win moved the 23-year-old to 3-0 in MMA and made him the first athlete in ONE history to hold World Titles in both submission grappling and MMA. Lee, 28, still holds the ONE Welterweight MMA World Title. Sityodtong handed Ruotolo a US$100,000 performance bonus for the night’s work, so the CEO was very much in fight-promoter mode even as the clip of him talking about lacing up was making the rounds.

Aoki has his own thread to that lightweight belt. ONE’s official account pointed out before the event that Lee first won the title against the Japanese veteran. And Aoki’s week had already been unusual before Sityodtong’s announcement. He wrestled Zack Sabre Jr. in a pro wrestling match days earlier and wrote afterward that it was a total defeat, but a fun one (“完敗も『楽しかった』”). He later added that people overseas had been messaging him to say they’d seen his pro wrestling, which he credited to Sabre’s reach.
What’s next
Nothing official. ONE hasn’t announced a bout for Sityodtong in anything shared publicly, and the podcast comments as reported describe an intention, with no timeline attached.

My take: I’m a sucker for a debut, and a promotion boss walking into his own Circle would be the strangest debut ONE has ever booked. But it needs real answers fast, starting with ruleset, opponent and a commission willing to sign off, before anyone treats it like more than a podcast moment. If it happens, put it on the prelims and let it breathe. And if Aoki is the one booking the matchmaking call, I’d pay to hear how that phone conversation starts.
