Amanda Serrano picked an Australian southpaw named Skye for her retirement fight. Just not the one who wanted it most, and Skye Nicolson was happy to explain why that bugs her.
Nicolson was Ariel Helwani’s first guest of the day on Wednesday, and when Serrano’s farewell opponent came up, she was blunt about it. “I don’t want to say I’m pissed. I would say I’m disappointed,” Nicolson said. She then laid out her theory: “I think they see the risk versus reward in fighting me, and it’s not what they’re looking for at this stage in her career.”
She went a step further on the stylistic side. “I’m a style that’s not great for her style, and I think she’d probably struggle with my style,” she said, before closing the door herself: “The ship’s sailed.”

That ship is docked in Puerto Rico. Serrano faces Skye Falzon on Saturday, January 9, at the Coliseo de Puerto Rico in San Juan, live on DAZN, with the unified featherweight world championship on the line. MVP is billing it as The Last Walk, and the bout is set for 12 rounds of three minutes each. The two did their first face-off on Tuesday, November 3, at a free, public press conference at Distrito T-Mobile in San Juan, and tickets went on sale Wednesday morning. Jake Paul pushed the on-sale himself on X, and Serrano hyped the presser with a quick message of her own.
The MVP twist
Here’s where it gets funny. On the same Helwani appearance, Nicolson revealed she’s now working with MVP, the same promotion putting on Serrano’s send-off. She said Matchroom came to her with an offer to transfer her contract to MVP as part of an alliance between the two companies.

“I definitely didn’t see me working with MVP on my bingo card for 2026,” Nicolson said. According to her, the pitch was that Matchroom would still back and promote her, while the move would give her a path to unify the division and land the biggest fights available.
That also meant burying the hatchet with Nakisa Bidarian, someone she’s openly clashed with before. “Nakisa and I squashed the beef and shook hands. We’re working together now,” she said, adding that the two have had different opinions and been vocal about them, but are on the same team now.

Quick take
I love a fighter who looks at a legend’s retirement party and says, out loud, that the guest list was built to avoid her. Nicolson can’t prove Serrano’s camp ducked her, and claiming the other side weighed the risk is the oldest complaint in boxing. Still, it lands harder when the woman saying it just signed on with the promoter running the show. She’s in the building now, she’s openly campaigning to unify the division, and she’s already filed the style-matchup argument with the public. If Serrano walks away on January 9 as planned, the Skye who didn’t get the call will be first in line for whatever’s left of that featherweight hardware, and MVP owns both sides of that pitch.
