Moicano vs. Nolan Closes UFC's Loaded October, and a 13-0 Wild Card Took the Co-Main

Unbeaten Jacobe Smith stepped in against Randy Brown four weeks after a first-round KO, while Tom Nolan carried a five-fight win streak into his first UFC headliner.

The UFC wrapped its October schedule on Halloween night at the Meta APEX in Las Vegas, with Renato Moicano and Tom Nolan headlining a five-fight main card. UFC.com has posted live results, prelim results and the official round-by-round scorecards for every bout. This version covers the card as it was booked. We’ll update with winners and judges’ tallies.

The main event was a Top 15 lightweight fight with a clear generational split. Moicano (21-7-1), a former title challenger out of Brasília, Brazil, came in trying to keep his spot in the Top 10. Nolan (11-1), out of Brisbane, Australia, walked into his first UFC main event riding a five-fight win streak. That’s the classic APEX setup: the established name puts his ranking on the line against a younger guy who has nothing to lose and a number to steal.

The co-main nobody planned

The best story on the card might have been one slot down. Randy Brown (20-8), fighting out of Spanish Town, Jamaica, was looking to get back in the win column at welterweight. His opponent ended up being Jacobe Smith (13-0) of Dallas, who took the fight on short notice. Smith wasn’t sitting on the couch when the call came, either. He was four weeks removed from a first-round knockout.

An unbeaten fighter who could easily have protected the zero and waited for a full camp said yes to a veteran with 28 pro fights instead. That’s the kind of booking I’ll defend in any hotel bar on any fight week.

The rest of the main card

Two veteran flyweights shared the middle of the card, with Ode’ Osbourne (13-9, 2 NC), who fights out of Las Vegas by way of Milwaukee, against Cody Durden (18-11-1) of Covington, Georgia. Neither one has ever been accused of wasting a round.

The women’s bantamweight division got a rankings fight. No. 6 Yana Santos (17-8, 1 NC), based in Coconut Creek, Florida, by way of Saint Petersburg, Russia, faced No. 7 Luana Santos (11-2) of São Paulo. Somebody’s ring announcer earned his money on that one. More to the point, the winner had a real case to climb into the Top 5 conversation.

The main card opened with Dana White’s Contender Series graduate Jean-Paul Lebosnoyani (11-2) of Las Vegas against undefeated welterweight Farman Hasanov (6-0) out of Nakhchivan, Azerbaijan. Hasanov came in with a perfect record and a main card debut slot. That’s a lot of trust from the matchmakers.

Prelims kicked off at 5 p.m. ET on Paramount+, and the main card followed at 8 p.m. ET. E. Spencer Kyte handled UFC.com’s live coverage, with separate pages for the prelims and the scorecards.

My take: Moicano vs. Nolan had the billing, but Smith taking Brown on a month’s rest is the decision I’ll remember from this card, whatever the scorecards say. Fighters who answer the phone are rarer than they should be, and a 13-0 prospect volunteering for a short-notice co-main is about as old-school as it gets.
