Julian Erosa Is Walking Away Before Fighting Gets to Make the Call for Him

The UFC featherweight says Saturday's bout at UFC Vegas 123 will be the last of his career, and protecting his health is the reason.

Julian Erosa will retire from professional MMA after his fight this Saturday at UFC Vegas 123. The featherweight laid out the decision in interviews this week, explaining that he wants to leave on his own terms while his health is still his.

The clearest version of his reasoning came in a clip MMA Fighting posted on X, filmed by Mike Heck. “I want to retire from fighting. I don’t want fighting to retire me,” Erosa said. He added, “I don’t want to give my health away to anything.” MMA Sucka also ran a piece on Erosa explaining why he is retiring on his own accord, so this is a settled plan with a fixed end date. Nobody should read it as a mood after a bad camp.

The road to Saturday

Erosa went deeper on the Top Turtle Podcast with Cageside Press, opening their UFC Vegas 123 episode with a conversation about the decision. He talked about how long the road to the Octagon was for him, the number of chances he was given along the way, and his stint on The Ultimate Fighter. He also previewed the fight and, true to form, offered one more prediction for violence before he hangs up the gloves.

That phrase about chances is worth sitting with. Plenty of fighters who come up through TUF and get multiple looks from the UFC never figure out how to turn the opportunity into a career. Erosa clearly sees his own path as one built on getting back in the door and making something of it, and he’s choosing to close that door himself.

The card

UFC Vegas 123 brings the promotion back to the Apex after a week in Abu Dhabi. Tom Nolan and Renato Moicano headline in a lightweight bout, with Randy Brown and Jacobe Smith in the co-main event. Erosa’s featherweight fight is one of the stories on a card that, on paper, looks like a standard Apex night. For one guy, it carries a lot more weight than that.

The event goes down Saturday, Oct. 31, 2026, in Las Vegas.

Quick take

The line about not letting fighting retire him is the smartest thing I’ve heard a fighter say this year, and I don’t mean that as faint praise. The usual exit in this sport goes like this: the reactions slow down, the chin goes, and the guy takes three more fights because the phone keeps ringing. Then the decision gets made for him by a referee waving it off. Erosa is skipping that chapter on purpose. He gets to walk out to a fight knowing it’s the last one, which means he can empty the tank without worrying about what’s left for the next camp. Fighters who know there’s no tomorrow tend to fight like it. If he’s promising violence on the way out, I believe him, and I’d bet the first exchange tells you exactly how he wants to be remembered.
