Jean Silva has his sights on the featherweight belt, and he’s making sure Alexander Volkanovski knows it. Heavy.com reported Monday that the Brazilian sent the champion a warning in the days after UFC 333. Knockout Daily hasn’t been able to view the original post, so we aren’t quoting it here.
The timing matters. On Saturday, Volkanovski, 38, finished Movsar Evloev in the second round to keep the title. That made him the oldest fighter ever to defend the UFC featherweight championship and moved his record to 29-4. Then he spent the rest of the night talking about leaving. Championship Rounds posted his comments that he wants to move up and face Justin Gaethje in a retirement fight.
“That’s something I’d retire for. If they want to give me that opportunity, win or lose I’d retire,” Volkanovski said, adding that he believed the fight could happen without holding the divisions up.

So the champ is pointing toward the exit, and the No. 5 featherweight just showed up at the door.
Silva (18-3) fights out of Kingdom Thai and has been a problem since Dana White’s Contender Series. He beat Kevin Vallejos by decision there in September 2023 to earn his contract. In the UFC he stopped Westin Wilson, Charles Jourdain and Melsik Baghdasaryan, and he choked Bryce Mitchell with a ninja choke at UFC 314. The run hit a wall in September 2025, when Diego Lopes stopped him with a spinning elbow in the second round of a main event that still earned Fight of the Night. He answered with a unanimous decision over Arnold Allen at UFC 324 in January. Most recently, on Sept. 12, Yair Rodríguez pulled out of their headliner with an injury, José Miguel Delgado stepped in, and Silva tapped him with a rear-naked choke in Round 3. That one paid him a $100,000 Performance of the Night bonus.

That’s a kid from Foz do Iguaçu who walks out as “Lord Assassin” and has finished nearly everyone the UFC has put in front of him. I get why he’s calling up the ladder.
What it gets him is the open question. If the UFC books Volkanovski against Gaethje, Silva’s callout turns into a pitch for whatever comes next at 145 pounds. If Volkanovski stays put, Silva has just put his name at the top of the champion’s inbox.
