Deiveson Figueiredo’s team has spoken up after the former two-time UFC flyweight champion lost to Payton Talbott at UFC 332 on Oct. 3. NDTV Sports described the camp’s post as an “emotional message,” and Yahoo Sports reported that the team issued a statement.
The full text of that statement wasn’t in the reports available to us, so we’re not going to put words in anybody’s mouth. Until the wording surfaces, any specifics about medical checks or a comeback timeline stay unconfirmed.
The result is on the record, though. NDTV called the loss brutal. Championship Rounds, posting live from the event, wrote that Talbott “JUST DESTROYED” Figueiredo.

That’s a rough night for a guy with a résumé like Figueiredo’s. He’s 25-8-1 and sits at No. 17 at bantamweight in the Knockout Daily rankings. His flyweight record stands at 10-3-1, and he’s widely considered one of the best 125-pounders ever. He turns 39 in December, which is an age when camps start writing statements like this one.
Talbott is headed the other way. He’s 12-1, ranked No. 15 at 135, and trains out of Reno Academy of Combat. He’s a Contender Series graduate with two Performance of the Night bonuses, one of them for a 19-second knockout of Yanis Ghemmouri at UFC 303. His only loss came at UFC 311 in January 2025, when Raoni Barcelos outwrestled him for a unanimous decision.

Talbott didn’t waste the microphone. “Sean O’Malley, you can’t run forever. Give the people what they want,” he said in the cage, per Championship Rounds.
O’Malley fired back, according to Championship Rounds: “4 out of last 7 fights have been against 3 of the greatest bantamweights of all time. Ain’t duckin no one.”
Henry Cejudo, never one to sit out a feud, picked a side. “Nobody wants to fight Payton Talbott. He’s been ignored for a year,” he wrote on X, adding that the UFC should “stop protecting Sean O’Methly.”

For Figueiredo, the next move belongs to his team and whatever the doctors tell them. For Talbott, it’s simpler. He just beat a former champion and called out the biggest name in the division in the same night. The UFC should book O’Malley vs. Talbott.
