Dakota Ditcheva has both hands back. The undefeated PFL flyweight has been cleared to resume full training after surgery on both hands, MMA Junkie reported Wednesday, and she’s eyeing an early 2027 return with a championship on the line.
The repair work left a mark, literally. On Tuesday, Ariel Helwani posted on X about the collection of scars Ditcheva has picked up from multiple hand surgeries, and a separate clip making the rounds on X the same day showed the current state of one of her hands. It looked rough. She sounded completely unbothered by it.
“It is what it is, and I feel like it’s just part of my story,” Ditcheva said in comments Helwani shared. “That’s how I’m taking it. I can’t be a superstar without an interesting story, right?”

The story she wants next runs straight through Jena Bishop. Ditcheva and Bishop have already met once, and as Yahoo’s Uncrowned panel pointed out in its October pound-for-pound rankings, nobody paid much attention that first time. That was during Ditcheva’s breakout 2024 run, when critics kept saying she was feasting on nobodies, right up until she stopped Taila Santos and shut a lot of those people up. Since then Bishop has dethroned Liz Carmouche, and now a rematch that once looked like a footnote has some real weight. Uncrowned has Ditcheva at No. 6 on its women’s pound-for-pound list, holding steady from last month, and described the second fight as close to inevitable.
Ditcheva admitted to Helwani that watching Bishop wear the belt has gotten under her skin. “I wasn’t really bothered about the belt before, but now I’ve kind of learned, oh, I am really bothered about the belt,” she said. She explained that because nobody had held it before, it never grabbed her. “But now seeing Jena with it, I’m quite a bit jealous and I’m motivated.”

She also described a strange faceoff with the new champ. According to Ditcheva, Bishop and her teammates had been running their mouths in the comments under PFL’s posts before their first fight. Then, face to face, Bishop complimented her outfit. “She said, ‘I like your top,’ but she just looked really, really uncomfortable,” Ditcheva said. Her verdict: “This is real different.”
My take: this is the most interesting Ditcheva has ever been outside the cage. For two years the knock on her was that the opponents were soft and the stakes were invented. Now she’s got a champion who beat Carmouche, a first fight that most people slept on, a faceoff that sounds like the most awkward 10 seconds in PFL history, and a fighter openly admitting she’s jealous. That’s a real rivalry, built by accident. If those rebuilt hands hold up in camp, early 2027 can’t come fast enough, and PFL should be booking it the minute she’s sharp.
