Ben Askren Called Kyle Dake Timeless, Then Dake Went Out and Proved It in Astana

The 35-year-old edged Arsenii Dzhioev 3-2 for 86kg freestyle gold, his fifth senior world title in a third weight class.

“KYLE DAKE makes another world final!! This guy is timeless 👊👊👊,” Ben Askren wrote on X on Oct. 30, posting from his @Benaskren account under the display name Funky.

The all-caps hype held up. Dake beat Arsenii Dzhioev 3-2 in the 86kg freestyle final at the World Championships in Astana, MiddleEasy reported, and walked out with gold.

The numbers behind it explain why Askren reached for “timeless.” Dake is 35. This is his fifth career senior world championship, and it comes in his third different weight class. Plenty of wrestlers win a world title once and spend the rest of their careers chasing that feeling. Dake keeps collecting them, and now he’s doing it at a new weight, an age when most elite wrestlers have already stepped away from the senior circuit.

The score tells you the final was a grind. A 3-2 result in a world championship match means one point separated gold from silver, and Dzhioev deserves real credit for dragging a five-time world champion into a match that tight. Nobody hands Dake anything at this stage, and Dzhioev made him earn every point on the board.

Askren’s post came before the final, after Dake had already punched his ticket to the gold-medal match. That timing matters. He called it timeless on the strength of Dake simply reaching another world final. Winning it turned a supportive shout into a pretty accurate read.

What comes next for Dake isn’t spelled out in the reports out of Astana, and there’s no word in the sources on whether he plans to stay at 86kg or what event he targets after this. For now the tally stands at five senior world titles across three weight classes, the latest one earned by a single point in Astana.
