“Joe Kropschot earns the flashy submission victory at #UFCVegas123!” the UFC wrote on X on Saturday, Oct. 31, posting the finish moments after Kropschot’s debut ended. A few minutes later the promotion’s account followed up with a second clip, writing “Joe Kropschot makes the most of his debut at #UFCVegas123!”
The opponent was Nick Klein, and the matchup came billed as a meeting of two Dana White’s Contender Series graduates. The UFC’s walkout post put it plainly: “DWCS alumns battle it out.” Kropschot was the one who left with his hand raised, and AOL described the finish as an unusual submission and his first win inside the Octagon.
I’d love to walk you through the exact mechanics, because odd submissions are my favorite thing in this sport and I’ll happily spend three paragraphs on a hand placement. The reports available so far don’t name the hold, the round or the time, though, and I’m not going to guess at it. What the sources do make clear is that it wasn’t a routine rear-naked choke that everybody has seen a thousand times. The UFC’s own social team reached for the word flashy, and they post finishes all night long, so a finish has to stand out to get that label.

The bigger confirmation came with the bonuses. Later that night the UFC announced its Performance of the Night winners on X: “Tom Nolan, Julian Erosa, Joe Kropschot and Lucia Szabova all get POTN bonuses at #UFCVegas123!” A first-time fighter on a Fight Night card sharing a bonus list with a veteran like Erosa is about as good a debut as a Contender Series signee can ask for.

For Klein, it’s a tough night against a fellow DWCS product, and the sources don’t say anything about where he goes from here.
What comes next
No follow-up booking has been announced for Kropschot. My read is that the matchmakers will want him back on a card soon. A finish that makes the promotion’s own account post two clips inside 10 minutes is the kind of debut that gets a fighter rebooked quickly. He arrived with a Contender Series contract, and he leaves Las Vegas with a submission win and a bonus check.
