Darren Till Says He'd Turn Down 10 Million Before He'd Apologize to John Fury

Till says his own manager laughed while asking whether he'd ring John Fury and say sorry to get a Tommy Fury fight made, and Till answered with an 'apology' that was mostly insults.

Darren Till has been offered a shortcut to a Tommy Fury boxing match, and he wants no part of it. In clips Ariel Helwani posted to X on Monday, Till said his manager called him two or three weeks ago with a request: phone John Fury, apologize, and maybe the Tommy fight could get done. Till said his manager was laughing while he asked, which tells you how well everyone involved knew the answer.

“Apologize for what?” Till said. He then made it clear that money wouldn’t change his mind. “I wouldn’t do it even if they said, ‘We’re gonna make the Tommy Fury fight happen. You’re getting 10 million, but you need to ring John Fury and apologize.’”

Till did offer something he called an apology. He said he was sorry that the elder Fury is a fat goblin, took a cruder shot at Tommy, and then told everyone that was the only apology they’d be getting. So the olive branch is still on the tree.

A rough week for Till’s boxing plans

The Fury comments came on the same day Till’s other big crossover target disappeared. Jake Paul announced Monday that his comeback opponent on December 24 at the Coca-Cola Arena in Dubai will be Cedric Doumbe, according to Bloody Elbow. Doumbe is 1-0 as a boxer, but he went 75-7 with 45 knockouts in kickboxing and held the GLORY welterweight title twice. He’s also 6-1 in MMA, with a nine-second knockout of Jordan Zebo in his PFL debut. Paul hasn’t fought since Anthony Joshua broke his jaw last December.

Till told Helwani he thought he had that date. He said negotiations were going well, that he believed a price had been agreed, and that “I’ve been in camp for the past two weeks with my coach.” Then the Doumbe news landed. Till called it “a fraudulent show” and called Paul’s business partner Nakisa Bidarian “a little fraud, wasting my time.” He also pointed to the size gap, saying Doumbe sits at 170 pounds while Paul is 220 to 225.

Till’s fallback might be bigger than either Fury or Paul. He told Helwani he has one fight left on his BKFC deal, that David Feldman is “massively keen to re-sign me,” and that talks about a BKFC show at Anfield look more serious than he first thought. Till said landing Anfield would mean “the dream’s done,” and he floated retiring there. He also took aim at Daniel Cormier, calling him “a company man.”

Tommy’s take

I love this, and I’m saying that as a guy who would absolutely buy a Till vs. Tommy Fury pay-per-view. The fun of Till is that he never pretends. Somebody waved a hypothetical eight-figure check in front of him, and he still couldn’t fake a sorry for 30 seconds on the phone. That’s a real villain. The problem is that real villains still need somebody across the ring, and right now Till has a camp with no opponent, a Fury family he just insulted again, and a Jake Paul date that belongs to a French kickboxer. If Feldman gets Anfield over the line, none of it matters. If he doesn’t, Till’s going to spend December 24 watching Dubai on his phone and yelling at it.
