Dakota Ditcheva Is Cleared and Already Calling Her Shot at Jena Bishop's New Belt

The 16-0 Manchester fighter told Ariel Helwani she's been grappling for weeks and wants the PFL flyweight title fight in February or March.

Dakota Ditcheva has been medically cleared to fight. The undefeated PFL flyweight told Ariel Helwani that doctors signed off on her return after corrective hand surgery, and she’s already been grappling for a few weeks.

“I’m good. I’m all cleared, and I’m back in training now, so yeah, I’m ready to go,” Ditcheva said. “I’m just waiting for a date for the belt.”

She’s been deliberately slow with the striking side. With nothing on the calendar, she explained, it made sense to put the hands on hold and live on the mats for a while.

That date she’s waiting on carries real weight now. The surgery took Ditcheva out of the running for the PFL’s inaugural 125-pound title, and in her absence Jena Bishop beat Liz Carmouche by unanimous decision at PFL Chicago on October 16 to become the promotion’s first flyweight champion. Carmouche, the former UFC fighter, walked in as the favorite, and plenty of people had already penciled in Carmouche vs. Ditcheva as the follow-up. Bishop wrecked that plan. Ditcheva then stepped into the cage for a face-off with the new champ, which pretty much told everyone where this is heading.

She didn’t sound surprised by the result. “I wasn’t shocked, no,” Ditcheva said. “I honestly think Liz was too bothered about me. She should’ve been bothered about Jena.”

Two hands, three breaks

The injury history here is brutal. Ditcheva (16-0) broke her left hand against Sumiko Inaba at PFL Africa 1 in 2025, and she turned down the surgery doctors recommended at the time. That cost her nearly a year. A return against Denise Kielholtz was set for February 7, 2026, until she broke her right hand before the fight and the bout was scrapped. The cause of that second break was never made public.

She finally got Kielholtz in July 2026 and won a dominant unanimous decision. She also re-injured both hands during that fight and kept it from her corner so they wouldn’t pull her out, only revealing it after the final bell. That’s when she finally agreed to surgery, expecting another year on the shelf. The clearance came much sooner than that.

As for the timeline, Ditcheva left no wiggle room on her end. “One hundred percent I am,” she said when asked about fighting for the belt. “I’m asking for February, maybe March, but I don’t know whether they want to try to push it back a little bit. I don’t know, but I want February or March, for sure.”

The PFL, per Essentially Sports, may lean toward a later date.

My take: give her the spring date. This is a woman who fought a full decision on two damaged hands and hid it from her own corner, and the promotion has a brand-new champion who just upset the favorite and has her challenger standing across from her in the cage. Bishop earned the belt clean, and Ditcheva has spent the better part of two years watching her career get interrupted by her own knuckles. Every extra month of waiting gives those hands another excuse to act up, and a title fight in February or March gives the PFL a sharp, fresh hook to open 2027.
