Conor McGregor, once the biggest star in mixed martial arts, is at a crossroads in his combat sports career. After suffering a devastating leg injury in 2021 and more recent setbacks, including a broken toe in 2024, his long-awaited return to the UFC remains uncertain.
Despite his injuries, McGregor remains vocal about his fighting aspirations, even hinting at a potential move to Bare Knuckle Fighting Championship (BKFC). But with UFC President Dana White expressing doubts and McGregor exploring other ventures, fans are left wondering—will he ever fight again?
UFC Return: Delayed or Denied?
McGregor was originally expected to return to the UFC in 2023, potentially facing Michael Chandler after their coaching stint on The Ultimate Fighter 31. However, delays, contract disputes, and injuries have pushed back any official announcement. Dana White recently cast doubt on McGregor’s return, stating that nothing is currently planned.
BKFC and Other Combat Sports Ventures
While his UFC future remains unclear, McGregor has expressed interest in competing in BKFC. He previously attended a BKFC event and teased the idea of stepping into the bare-knuckle ring. If UFC negotiations fall through, BKFC could be a serious option for the Irishman.
Additionally, McGregor has long been linked to another high-profile boxing match, possibly against Jake Paul or another big-name fighter. Given his past bout against Floyd Mayweather in 2017, another boxing event would not be out of the question.
Beyond Fighting: Business and Acting
McGregor has expanded his brand beyond the fight game. His Proper No. Twelve whiskey business has been a massive success, and he recently starred in Amazon Prime’s Road House remake. With lucrative opportunities outside of fighting, he may choose to step away from competition for good.
Will We See McGregor Fight Again?
McGregor insists that he is not done, but his inactivity and outside interests suggest otherwise. If he does return, it may not be in the UFC but rather in BKFC or another combat sports promotion. Until an official fight is booked, the future of “The Notorious” remains uncertain.
