Unbeaten Anastasia Nikolakakos Gets Vacant ONE Gold Shot in Chihiro Sawada's Backyard

The 7-0 Canadian meets Japan's former Shooto champion for the empty women's atomweight MMA title on December 2 at ONE SAMURAI 6.

ONE Championship made it official on Tuesday, pitting Chihiro Sawada against Anastasia Nikolakakos for the vacant ONE Women’s Atomweight MMA World Title. The promotion billed the Canadian as an “unbeaten powerhouse” and then asked the obvious question in the same post: “Will Sawada win the throne in front of her home fans?” it wrote on X.

The fight lands December 2 at ONE SAMURAI 6 in Japan, streaming live on U-NEXT. MiddleEasy and ONE’s own site ran the booking the same morning, and it went up on r/MMA within the hour.

Sawada is the name Japanese fans already know. She’s 12-1-1, fights out of Idea Asakusa, and came to MMA in 2021 after an amateur wrestling career that included silver at the 2019 All Japan Adult Championship and the 2017 Asian Junior Championship. Her pro debut was a 19-19 unanimous draw with Yuki Ono, which is about the most Shooto way to start a career imaginable. A year later she won the 2022 Shooto Atomweight Infinity League to become the promotion’s inaugural women’s atomweight champion, highlighted by a second-round finish of tournament favorite Hisae Watanabe in which she dropped her with a right overhand, took the back and sank a rear-naked choke.

Her ONE debut in February 2023 ended with an Americana 53 seconds into Round 2 against Sanaz Fayazmanesh. She also beat Ana Palacios by unanimous decision at Combate Global. Her last fight was April 29, 2026. Knockout Daily’s rankings currently list her at No. 17 at women’s strawweight.

Nikolakakos is the mystery box here, and that’s what makes this interesting. She’s 7-0, trains at Gracie Humaita-Bolton, and last fought July 17, 2026, which gives her about four and a half months between that bout and a title fight. Our rankings have her at No. 32 at strawweight. Seven fights is a thin résumé for a world title shot. Then again, nobody has figured out how to beat her yet.

The stylistic read is simple enough on paper: a decorated wrestler who has submitted people from top position against an undefeated fighter coming out of a jiu-jitsu gym. Where the scrambles end up will probably decide who leaves with the belt.

There’s also a nice bit of symmetry on the calendar. Sawada defended her Shooto title against Miku Nakamura on December 2, 2023, finishing her by first-round submission. Three years to the day later, she gets a shot at a bigger belt at home in Japan.
