Tom Nolan finished Renato Moicano in Round 3 the first time, and he believes a second fight would end well before that. The lightweight prospect said he would take an immediate rematch if the Brazilian asked for one, in comments Sherdog shared on X and that quickly spread on Reddit.
Nolan said he expects a rematch to play out much the same way, only earlier. Now that he has been in there with Moicano once, he thinks it would be over pretty quickly.
He was careful about the tone. Nolan stressed that he wasn’t disrespecting Moicano or calling him out, and he called the situation unfortunate.

The standup that changed the fight
The rematch talk exists because of referee Dan Miragliotta. Moicano had taken Nolan’s back in the second round when Miragliotta stood the fighters up, a call Moicano still can’t make sense of. Speaking with Ariel Helwani, he said his first thought was, “What the f*** is going on?” He conceded the decision affected him and argued that he would have spent the rest of the round on Nolan’s back and banked it. Instead he got caught on the feet, dropped the round, and walked into the third “hurt and frustrated.”
What stands out is how little of that frustration Moicano aimed at his opponent. “He beat me fair and square,” Moicano said. “It’s not his fault the referee made a mistake.” He called Nolan the better striker on the night. In a separate clip from the same interview, he said his real grievance was money. He took home “only half of the paycheck,” and he described that as the part of the sport that hurts most, paying for someone else’s mistake.

There was one lighter moment. Nolan had called Moicano one of his heroes, and Moicano waved it away. “I’m not Charles Oliveira, I’m not Khabib. Let’s be honest, I’m a journeyman,” he told Helwani.
Where both men stand
The win paid off for Nolan in the unofficial Meta UFC lightweight rankings. Championship Rounds reported that he climbed five spots to No. 7, while Moicano fell six spots to No. 14.
Moicano also told Helwani something that makes a run-back hard to picture. He has three fights left on his UFC contract and says he is finished with MMA once they are done. His plan is influencer boxing, which he summed up as wanting to “beat up people that don’t know how to fight.” He pointed to Tony Ferguson as the path he wants to avoid and said he doesn’t expect the UFC to pay him enough to keep going after these three.

Quick take
Nolan’s offer is gracious, and his confidence makes sense. He won, he moved up the board, and he now knows what Moicano feels like in the pocket. Still, the rematch isn’t happening. A man with three fights left who has openly said he’s in it for the paycheck has no reason to spend one of them on a younger striker who already beat him and now thinks he can do it faster. The more useful outcome for Nolan is a matchup that builds on that No. 7 spot. For Moicano, the controversy will probably fade from memory, and he says the fight will too. The half purse is what he’ll remember.
