The UFC Just Claimed This Contender Series Finisher as One of Its Own

Salhahuddin Everett needed 1:57 to stop Ozzy Martin, and Preston LaGrange topped him with a 2:24 headliner finish on a night when four of five fights ended in Round 1.

Preston LaGrange closed Week 9 of Dana White’s Contender Series with a finish at 2:24 of Round 1, stopping Nell Ariano in a light heavyweight main event at the Meta APEX in Las Vegas on Tuesday night. The official results list LaGrange at 7-1 and Ariano at 6-1. That’s two fighters with a combined 13 wins between them, and the headliner was over before the three-minute mark.

The official sheet records it only as a stoppage. It doesn’t say what ended it, and none of the social posts covering the night described the sequence, so I’m not going to fill in strikes I can’t confirm. What the result does tell you is that LaGrange matched the tone of the evening. Four of the five bouts ended inside the first round, and the headliner was the third-fastest of those finishes.

The obvious question on any Contender Series night is who earned a UFC contract. None of the material available for this recap reports contract decisions for LaGrange or anyone else on the card, so treat any deal talk you see as unconfirmed until it’s announced.

The Office Guy Who Can Punch

The co-main is where the UFC’s own social team lost its composure, in a good way. Salhahuddin Everett stopped Ozzy Martin at 1:57 of Round 1 at welterweight. That moves Everett to 5-0 in the official results, and Martin is listed at 4-1.

The UFC account on X posted a clip with the caption “Left hook... Right hook... OUT,” which is the closest thing to a play-by-play anyone published on this one. A two-shot combination, both hooks, and Martin was done before the two-minute mark. That’s a clean way to win a Contender Series fight. There’s no ambiguity for the matchmakers to argue about afterward.

The framing around Everett was the part that stood out. Another UFC post read “From the office to the octagon, Salhahuddin Everett gets it done!” under the line “BUSINESS IS BUSINESS.” A third post claimed him outright as one of the company’s own and said he’d shown everyone he belongs in the UFC. Promotional accounts don’t usually adopt a Contender Series fighter like that while the broadcast is still live.

Aaron Bronsteter joined in on X with a post welcoming Sal Everett to the UFC, then fired off a quick follow-up doing a double take, as if he’d just remembered something. The joke depends on Everett already having some tie to the company. None of the posts say what that tie is or what the office job involves, so that detail stays open here. The in-joke is still clear enough. People inside the UFC orbit were very happy to watch this guy throw hands, and he gave them a highlight to post three separate times.

At 5-0 he’s the least experienced winner on the card by record. He also held the shortest night of work at welterweight on the APEX canvas. That’s a strong first impression from someone with only five pro fights.

Rest of the Main Card

Roque Conceição def. Alexander Chavez. This was the most experienced fighter on the card against an opponent with one loss. Conceição is now listed at 12-3 after stopping Chavez at 3:37 of Round 1 at flyweight, and Chavez sits at 9-1. It was the longest of the four finishes, though finishing a 125-pounder in under four minutes is still fast. With 15 pro fights, Conceição had plenty of experience to lean on, and the result fits that. The official results say only that it was a stoppage, and no posts described the finish.

Mateus Soares def. Ryuho Miyaguchi. This was the fastest fight of the night, ending at 1:03 of Round 1. Soares, now 12-2, stopped Miyaguchi (7-2) at bantamweight. The Championship Rounds account on X called it a knockout in capital letters, “MATEUS SOARES KNOCKS OUT RYUHO MIYAGUCHI,” and Spinnin Backfist went with “Mateus Soares is VIOLENT” and noted it was the first finish of the night. The UFC’s post said Soares “Wasted no time” and “makes a statement in RD1!” Every account that posted about this fight reacted with some version of shock. When the fastest finish on a card also produces the loudest reaction, the fighter has usually done a lot in very little time. Soares and Conceição both came in with 12 wins, and both added a first-round stoppage on Tuesday.

Alivia Bierley def. Summer Onley. This was the only fight that went the distance, and it was also the only women’s bout. Bierley beat Onley on the scorecards at women’s bantamweight. The judges’ scores haven’t been published in the material available here. Both fighters are listed at 6-1 in the official results. The UFC’s account on X wrote that Bierley “extends her win streak to six!” A decision win on a card full of first-round finishes will always get less attention. But six wins in a row at the same weight is a real run, and she earned the win over the full fight instead of in a single exchange. Based on when the UFC’s posts went up, her fight came before Soares’s. That means she opened the night, and the finishes started after her.

What’s Next

None of the sources for this recap name next opponents, dates, or contract news for LaGrange or Everett. Before people start booking Everett’s UFC debut, the UFC needs to announce that he has a contract. Here’s what is confirmed. The four finishes added up to nine minutes and one second of total fight time, from Soares at 1:03 to Conceição at 3:37. Everett, at 5-0, now has a clip of two hooks ending a fight that the UFC’s own account posted.
