Salahdine Parnasse Mourns Atch Academy Teammate Killed in Trappes Attack

Pengo Bossio Wangi, a 26-year-old amateur prospect from Parnasse's Aubervilliers gym, died in an attack in Trappes that RMC Sport described as racist.

Empty MMA gym at dawn with a still heavy bag and a pair of gloves resting on a bench

“Repose en paix ❤️🙏🏾 toutes mes pensées à sa famille et ses proches, on ne t’oubliera pas 🕊️,” UFC lightweight Salahdine Parnasse wrote on X late Friday, Oct. 23.

In English, Parnasse asked that the young man rest in peace, sent his thoughts to the family and loved ones, and promised he would not be forgotten. His post quoted an RMC Sport report identifying the victim as Pengo Bossio Wangi, a 26-year-old amateur MMA prospect and amateur member of Atch Academy in Aubervilliers. RMC Sport said Bossio Wangi died in what it called the racist attack in Trappes, and its post opened with a line about him: “Il était de ceux qui donnent l’exemple” (he was one of those who set the example).

The gym is why this one hits Parnasse so directly. He was born in Aubervilliers on Dec. 4, 1997, and started training mixed martial arts at Atch Academy around age 11. He still represents the team today, sitting at No. 13 in the Knockout Daily lightweight rankings with a 24-2 record. His last fight came on Sept. 5, 2026. Before the UFC, he was the KSW lightweight champion and a two-time KSW featherweight champion, one of only four two-division champions in that promotion’s history. When the most decorated fighter in a room loses a training partner, the whole room feels it.

Other tributes followed. Antoine Villedieu posted on X Saturday morning that the entire combat sports world was in mourning. He wrote that a life had been cut down by barbarism and a future torn away, sent his thoughts to Bossio Wangi’s family, loved ones and training partners, and closed with “Repose en paix, champion.”

Outlets have characterized the attack in different terms. RMC Sport called it racist, while Azerbaijani outlet 1News.az reported in a headline that the fighter (spelled Wangui) was killed in a terrorist attack near Paris. None of the material available to Knockout Daily includes details on a suspect, a motive or the state of any investigation, so we are attributing those labels to the outlets that used them and nothing further.

Bossio Wangi never got the pro debut that a prospect from a gym like Atch Academy usually works toward. Parnasse took that same path, two amateur fights and then a pro debut at 17, starting in the same Aubervilliers room.
