Ryan Garcia says he has a deal with Floyd Mayweather. A real fight, at welterweight, with a green belt on the line.
Garcia made the claim on social media Wednesday, and the Championship Rounds account on X circulated his words: “It’s real and he wants to do a real fight at 147. This fight will be for the 147 WBC world championship, I made that very clear. Floyd and I agreed to fight.”
That’s the whole announcement so far. No promoter has confirmed the bout. No date, no venue, no word from the WBC about putting its welterweight title up for a matchup involving a man who hasn’t had a professional fight in nine years. For now this is Garcia’s claim, and you should read it that way.

Where both men stand
Garcia is coming off the most violent night of his recent run. In September he broke down Conor Benn, who had been one of Zuffa Boxing’s marquee signings, and the beating was bad enough that Matchroom chairman Eddie Hearn, Benn’s former promoter, brought it up this week while roasting Dana White’s boxing venture. Hearn told iFL TV that Zuffa signed Benn and then got him “smashed to pieces.” Garcia beating a name that big gives him real leverage, and he clearly wants to cash it in against the biggest name available.
Mayweather’s last professional fight was the 2017 crossover spectacle with Conor McGregor in Las Vegas, which he won by TKO in Round 10 to retire at 50-0. He’s done exhibitions and he’s done a lot of talking since, but Garcia keeps leaning on the idea of a real fight, and that’s the part that would make this different.

The timing is funny, too. On the very same day Garcia posted, Mayweather was on the PBD Podcast floating a completely different comeback. “Actually, I think me and Conor McGregor may lock up again,” he said, before accusing McGregor of stealing his swag and taking it to the UFC. McGregor, 38, is sidelined with a knee injury from his 69-second loss to Max Holloway at UFC 329 in July and has said he plans to finish his UFC contract in 2027. White has shown zero interest in a rematch, saying nothing about the first fight suggested a different outcome next time.
So in one news cycle, Mayweather has two hypothetical opponents and zero signed contracts.

Quick take
I want this fight more than I want McGregor-Mayweather 2, and it isn’t close. Garcia is young and fast, he’s fresh off a fight where he looked dangerous, and 147 with a sanctioning body involved would mean the scorecards actually count. But Garcia saying “I made that very clear” about the title only tells us what he wants, and the WBC hasn’t said a word. Until Mayweather himself or a promoter puts this on the record, the only confirmed detail is the weight: 147 pounds.
