Natalia Silva Threw a UFC Title Parade in Her Hometown and Nobody Showed Up

The new flyweight champion rode through Pingo-d'Água, Minas Gerais in the back of a pickup with the belt held high, Rocky music blaring and fireworks going off, past streets that stayed nearly empty.

Natalia Silva brought the UFC women’s flyweight title home to Minas Gerais, and her town barely looked up. Video that hit X on Friday shows the brand new champion standing in the bed of a pickup truck as it rolls through Pingo-d’Água. She holds the belt over her head while the Rocky theme plays and fireworks pop off the vehicle. Around her, the streets are close to empty. Every clip that has surfaced so far shows a few locals going about their afternoon, apparently unaware that a UFC champion was passing by.

The footage traveled fast. The account @Nolimitsu_ posted it with the caption that Silva was “EXPECTING a HUGE welcome home celebration for winning the UFC belt,” then added “( Nobody came ).” Spinnin Backfist went fully deadpan: “Streets are flooded for Natalia Silva in Brazil…” MMA Junkie and Bloody Elbow both ran the story within hours. MMA Junkie’s write-up noted that a single coach appeared to be the one lighting the fireworks, which might be the saddest detail in the whole thing.

Fan reaction, as collected by Bloody Elbow, landed mostly on sympathy. “That’s actually sad.” “I feel bad.” “They should have shown some love. She reps them.” Others were blunter, with one writing, “She is no Charles Oliveira in popularity.” Quoting the Spinnin Backfist clip, Dovy Simu wrote simply “this is just sad”.

That Oliveira comparison is the one everybody reached for. After Oliveira knocked out Michael Chandler at UFC 262 in 2021 to win the lightweight title, he came home to Sao Paulo and the streets filled with people. Brazil has a long line of champions who got that treatment, Anderson Silva and Jose Aldo among them, and Bloody Elbow framed Silva’s quiet ride as the opposite end of that tradition.

The resume deserves a crowd. Silva won the 125-pound belt last Saturday at UFC 332 in Salt Lake City, grinding out a five-round decision over Wang Cong to take the throne Valentina Shevchenko had held. She’s 21-5-1 now, with nine straight wins in the Octagon and a 15-fight winning streak overall. According to MMA Junkie, three of those UFC wins came against former champions. Bloody Elbow also pointed out that her fight with Wang was only the second women’s title bout the UFC put on in all of 2026, a stat that has fans arguing about how much the promotion is investing in its women’s divisions.

As for what’s next, Bloody Elbow floated a fight with Shevchenko as the matchup that could build real interest in Silva’s reign in 2027, while acknowledging that beating “Bullet” would be about as hard as it gets at flyweight.

My take: don’t blame Pingo-d’Água. You can’t hold a parade nobody heard about and then call the turnout a referendum on the champion. Somebody on Silva’s team, or somebody at a promotion that booked two women’s title fights all year, should have made a few calls before that truck left the driveway. She fought 25 minutes for that belt in Salt Lake City and deserved more than one coach with a lighter. Book her the Shevchenko fight, put it on a card people actually watch, and next time the streets will know what day it is.
