Movsar Evloev Has Zero UFC Finishes and Says He Doesn't Care Before Volkanovski

The unbeaten featherweight says his whole country is waiting on the belt at UFC 333, and chasing a highlight comes second to that.

Movsar Evloev Has Zero UFC Finishes and Says He Doesn't Care Before Volkanovski

Movsar Evloev is four days out from the biggest fight of his life, and he’s spending part of fight week defending how he wins. The undefeated featherweight challenger meets champion Alexander Volkanovski in the UFC 333 main event on Saturday, Oct. 24, and he’s arriving without a single stoppage on his UFC ledger. He has made peace with that.

In an interview flagged by MMA Fighting on X, Evloev said taking the belt from Volkanovski outranks finally getting his first UFC finish. “My whole republic, my whole country, are waiting for me to bring that title. So for me, all of this is more important than just my ego,” he said.

He pushed the point further with MiddleEasy, arguing that fans who appreciate the technical side of the sport can get plenty out of a fight that goes the distance. Sportskeeda’s write-up on the same theme carried the headline phrase “zero finishes” next to Evloev’s own line: “You can show the beauty of wrestling.” It’s a bold pitch to make while headlining a pay-per-view. It’s also an honest one. Evloev has never pretended to be a knockout artist, and he isn’t going to start pretending with a title on the table.

The UFC’s own promotional package leaned into the payoff angle, running his interview under the title “This Moment Is What I’ve Been Waiting For.” That framing fits a contender who climbed the featherweight rankings by winning, again and again, without ever forcing the issue.

The Champion’s Side

Volkanovski, the Australian titleholder, has been documenting his own camp. He shared footage, reposted by Championship Rounds, of a training challenge so brutal that one of his teammates appeared to pass out from exhaustion. “Did he pass out? F*ck man, that was an absolute war,” Volkanovski said in the clip. UFC Brasil also posted a segment on Monday in which the champion laid out how he sees the fight playing out against the Russian challenger.

The betting crowd can’t separate them. Championship Rounds pointed out early Tuesday that the matchup was sitting at 50-50 on Polymarket, which tells you how much respect Evloev’s unbeaten run has earned, finishes or no finishes.

Fight Week Details

UFC Brasil listed Brazilians Daniel Santos, Iasmin Lucindo and Nicolle Caliari on the card. For viewers in Brazil, the pre-show starts at 10 a.m. Brasília time with fights beginning at 11 a.m., streaming on Paramount+ Brasil.

Quick Take

I’ll defend a wrestler’s right to win however he wants, and I mean it. What scares me about this one is the risk of 25 minutes of Evloev clinging to a hip while the champion looks for room. Still, Evloev’s logic is airtight from where he stands. Nobody back home will ask how the belt got there. If he wants the fans he’s talking about to stay with him, though, he has to make the grappling look as dangerous as it is in his head, with real advances, real threats and real scrambles. Volkanovski has spent his career solving puzzles in the middle of fights. Saturday is the day we learn whether Evloev’s puzzle has an answer.
