Callum Bisping is no longer unbeaten. The 25-year-old son of UFC Hall of Famer Michael Bisping was stopped by John McCain in Round 2 of an amateur bout on Saturday night. It was his first loss in three trips to the cage.
Bloody Elbow reported the fight took place at SUNDOWN 2. It was contested at 235 pounds with the SD Catchweight Championship on the line. Essentially Sports placed it at an event it called Street Fighter Party. Footage circulating on X shows Bisping pinned against the fence in the second round. A combination then drops him face-first to the canvas, and the referee waved it off immediately.
According to Essentially Sports, Bisping shot for a takedown, couldn’t get McCain to the mat, and ate a string of heavy punches for his trouble. For a guy whose entire résumé so far runs through wrestling, that sequence tells you most of what happened.
How he got here
Bisping wrestled at the NCAA Division II level at San Francisco State. Essentially Sports reported he opened with a unanimous decision over Chayton Acevedo at Fight Club LA in December. He then went to 2-0 by finishing Brycen MacLeod in the first round at a Regime Fight League card in Westlake Village, California. MacLeod was also 2-0 coming in, and Bisping took mount and punched until the referee jumped in. Bloody Elbow had that one ending in 69 seconds back in April.
McCain’s record depends on which outlet you read. Bloody Elbow said the win capped a 3-0 amateur run, while Essentially Sports had him improving to 2-0. Either way, he’s unbeaten and now holds a belt. He celebrated on Instagram: “A fight was fought, a night was had, and a comeback has come.”
Bloody Elbow reported that no one from the Bisping family has commented. Online, a lot of the reaction went after Callum’s physique, with commenters suggesting he drop to light heavyweight or even lower.
Callum has kept this whole project low-profile on purpose. On his Believe You Me podcast in 2025, Michael said his son never told him about the debut ahead of time. “Didn’t tell me about it; I didn’t know, and again, I respect it because he wanted to do it under the radar; he didn’t wanna make a big deal about it,” Bisping said.
No return date has been announced.
Sal’s take
The weight-class chatter is noise. The useful data point is simpler. Both of Callum’s wins came from getting on top, and the first time a guy stuffed the shot, Callum ended up on the fence with no answer. I’ve lost money on thinner information than a viral clip, but one stuffed takedown is a real tell, and it’s a cheap one to learn at 235 pounds on a regional amateur card. If he comes back with something to throw when the double-leg doesn’t land, this loss turns out to be his best lesson so far. If he doesn’t, every opponent who watched the SUNDOWN 2 footage already knows the game plan: sprawl, pin him on the fence and swing.
