Kamaru Usman has film duty this week. MMA Junkie posted Friday that “Kamaru Usman breaks down ‘key factor’ in Brendan Allen vs. Christian Leroy Duncan,” teeing up the former UFC welterweight champion’s analysis of Saturday’s UFC Vegas 122 main event. The text of the post doesn’t name the factor. That lives in the breakdown itself, so I’m not going to put words in Usman’s mouth.
The messenger is the interesting part. Usman (21-5) is a former welterweight champ, a TUF 21 winner and the owner of the longest win streak in UFC welterweight history at 15. Knockout Daily’s data lists him at No. 6 at middleweight with a last fight on July 18, 2026, and it also lists him and Allen on the same team, Kill Cliff FC. So this is a guy breaking down a training partner’s fight. Read his analysis knowing that.
Allen comes in at 27-7. Our data has him No. 11 at middleweight, and the Meta rankings on his Wikipedia page had him No. 5 as of Aug. 29. His most recent outing was June 6. He started jiu-jitsu at 13, and his résumé reads like a tap-out highlight reel. He choked out Aaron Jeffery on Dana White’s Contender Series to get signed. He then submitted Kevin Holland in his UFC debut, caught Karl Roberson with an ankle hook at UFC 261 and finished Sam Alvey with a rear-naked choke. Both of his early UFC losses (Sean Strickland and Chris Curtis) came by TKO in Round 2, and if you’re a Duncan fan that’s the stat you’ve circled.

Christian Leroy Duncan brings momentum. The UFC says he’s on a five-fight win streak, which the promotion calls the longest active run at middleweight, and its own promo is captioned “Eyes set on the top 5.” He also apparently kicks off every weight cut by shooting hoops, per a UFC clip. If he’s draining threes on fight week I trust him to make 185.
I’ll give my read since Usman’s is behind a click. This is a grappler with a history of finishes against a guy whose streak says he keeps finding ways to win. Allen wants it on the mat early. Duncan wants it standing and messy. Whoever controls where the fight happens probably gets the top-five fight that comes next.

And Jed Meshew had the best line of the week, writing on X that this is the “First UFC fight in history with five first names.” He’s not wrong.
Allen vs. Duncan headlines UFC Vegas 122 on Saturday, Oct. 10, at 8 p.m. ET on Paramount+.
