Jose Aldo has no interest in being polite about Movsar Evloev. In a video interview with Guilherme Cruz that MMA Fighting posted on X on Tuesday, the Brazilian explained what he would do with the featherweight title challenger if he were the one running the UFC.
“I’d wait for him to lose for the first time and then cut him because he’s a guy who doesn’t sell, a guy who puts on boring fights, a guy who doesn’t draw attention.”
A day later, MMA Sucka reported that Aldo will be rooting for Alexander Volkanovski when the champion defends against Evloev in the UFC 333 main event this Saturday, Oct. 24. After that clip, nobody needed a translator to guess which corner he’d be cheering for.

Aldo’s opinion on featherweights carries more weight than most. He was the inaugural UFC featherweight champion and remains the longest-reigning one, with seven UFC title defenses on top of two in the WEC. He went 18 straight fights without a loss before Conor McGregor finally beat him at UFC 194 in December 2015. He’s 32-10, sits at No. 23 in the Knockout Daily featherweight rankings, and last fought on May 10, 2025. The kid who left Manaus for Rio at 17 with only his clothes and a plan to train at Nova Uniao built the standard everyone at 145 still gets measured against.
Volkanovski is the man who has come closest to that standard. The Australian is tied with Aldo for the most featherweight title wins in UFC history. He’s 28-4, No. 1 in the division, and became the oldest fighter to win the featherweight belt at 36 before becoming the oldest to defend it at 37. His last fight came on Jan. 31, 2026, and he was listed at No. 2 pound-for-pound as of June.

None of that has scared off the betting public. Polymarket had the fight as a 50-50 proposition earlier this week, which tells you how seriously people take Evloev regardless of what Aldo thinks of his entertainment value.
That sets up an awkward possible ending to Aldo’s comments. If Evloev wins Saturday, the guy he described as unsellable walks out with the belt Aldo held for years, and the UFC will be selling him whether anyone finds him exciting or not. If Volkanovski wins, the champion already has his next trip planned. He told reporters he’s heading to Dagestan to film an episode of Cooking With Volk with Islam Makhachev, with hunting on horseback and cooking over a fire on the agenda.
