Jorge Masvidal Drags Conor McGregor Back Into the Fight With a UFC 329 What-If

Masvidal reportedly laid out what he would have done at UFC 329, eight years after Khabib Nurmagomedov submitted McGregor at UFC 229.

Jorge Masvidal is talking about Conor McGregor again. MMA Sucka ran it Friday under the headline that Masvidal had “reignites Conor McGregor feud, reveals what he’d have done at UFC 329.”

That headline is all the reporting available so far. Masvidal’s exact words about McGregor, and his specific UFC 329 scenario, weren’t in anything we could verify. So no quotes from him on McGregor here, and no guessing about what he said.

He was talking big fights in general this week, though. In comments shared on X by Dovy (@DovySimuMMA) and credited to @MMAFullMount, Masvidal pitched Ilia Topuria vs. Paddy Pimblett as a 100,000-seat stadium show.

“Paddy is a star in America. This dude would sell out T-Mobile Arena in America, and then you have Ilia, who has all of Latin America,” Masvidal said. “You put both of these guys together, numbers wise, this is the biggest fight the UFC can make.”

It’s a bold claim to make in a week built around McGregor’s biggest night. Tuesday was the eighth anniversary of UFC 229, when Khabib Nurmagomedov tapped McGregor on Oct. 6, 2018. That card drew 2.4 million pay-per-view buys, still the most ever for an MMA event, and McGregor headlined the five best-selling UFC pay-per-views in history.

Masvidal, 41, fought professionally for 20 years before retiring from MMA in 2023 and switching to pro boxing. He still owns the fastest knockout in UFC history at five seconds and won the symbolic BMF title. He’s also been keeping company with old foes. Dovy posted Thursday night that Masvidal and Ben Askren had linked up, and Askren is the guy on the wrong end of those five seconds.

McGregor is 22-7 and sits at No. 27 at welterweight in the Knockout Daily rankings. His last fight was July 11, 2026. He’s a former UFC featherweight and lightweight champion and the first to hold both belts at once.

He’s also still the name everyone wants. Jake Paul posted a wish list on X on Wednesday, tagging promoter Nakisa Bidarian, with McGregor on it for both boxing and MMA. McGregor’s other baggage is well documented. An Irish High Court ruled in a November 2024 civil case that he assaulted and raped a woman in 2018, and he lost his appeal in July 2025.

For Masvidal, a boxer now, a McGregor fight would have to happen in someone else’s ring. He hasn’t said that’s the plan. When the full interview surfaces, his UFC 329 answer is the part worth hearing.
