Jon Jones spent his Tuesday doing two things he’s very good at: keeping everybody guessing about his career and getting under Colby Covington’s skin. The rest of the timeline brought a lunch nobody saw coming, a Jake Paul callout tease and a heavyweight circling a December date.
Jon Jones, on retirement
A fan on X asked Jones (currently going by the display name Jonny Meat, which is its own column) whether he’s fighting again. His answer: “More than likely, I won’t fight again, but as of right now I’m still getting drug tested. Leaving doors open, you never know what the future holds.” That’s about as close to a retirement announcement as you’ll get from him, with a very convenient asterisk attached. Staying in the testing pool costs him nothing and keeps every promoter on Earth checking his mentions, so I’d call him retired right up until somebody makes a phone call.
Jon Jones, on Colby Covington
A different X user told Jones to give up the grudges and called him unc, and Jones answered with a full sermon. “I just like reminding Colby that I’m not the man I used to be. And even at my weakest, I’ve always been better than him,” he wrote, adding, “I’m everything he could never be, and I know it kills him inside.” He closed with “I just want to give him a little more to hate. That’s all,” which is the most honest description of a social media feud I’ve ever read. He also claimed, “I literally have zero reason to hate on anyone,” in the same post where he dunked on Colby four different ways. Never change, Jon.

Jorge Masvidal
Gamebred posted on X about sitting down with Ben Askren: “Lunch with Ben 5 years after our fight ! Full episode on my YouTube link in bio.” These two had one of the nastier rivalries of its era, and now they’re splitting a meal for content. The post pulled 2,435 engagements, more than anything else in this roundup, which tells you fans would still rather watch these two share a booth than watch half the cards on the schedule.

Jake Paul
Jake Paul posted on X, “Now Vs. Then. Line em up for me,” tagging Most Valuable Promotions cofounder Nakisa Bidarian and the company’s account. He didn’t name a target, so there’s nothing to report on who’s next. Still, this is a classic Jake move, a challenge thrown at the whole room with the business partner cc’d so everybody knows money is part of the conversation.

Makoto Shinryu Takahashi
The Japanese flyweight posted on X, “大晦日僕が出る幕ないかもですね、、” and tagged Shorty Torres. Roughly translated, he’s saying there might not be a spot for him on New Year’s Eve. He didn’t spell out what’s keeping him off the holiday cards, but tagging Torres in a post like that reads like a guy who’d happily take a fight if somebody wants one. Japanese New Year’s Eve shows are a big deal, so watch this one.

Sergei Pavlovich
The Russian heavyweight kept it short on X: “I’ll be ready for UFC 335 on December 12, 2026. #ufc.” No opponent, no callout, only a date and a hashtag. For a heavyweight known for ending things fast, a calendar notice is an appropriately efficient way to ask for work.

Hideki Sekine
Shrek Sekine quoted a post on X asking how gyms handle skin infections spreading on the mats, and replied, “これマジ大事!” His point, roughly: this matters, because one infected person can spread it through an entire gym and keep it going forever. It’s the least glamorous post of the day and probably the most useful. Wash your gear, wash the mats and stay home if something looks weird on your arm. Your training partners will thank you, and so will the guy who has to roll with you next.
