Jon Jones finally found an opponent bad enough to make him want Daniel Cormier on his side. It was a pizza.
In a clip posted Thursday night by Championship Rounds on X, Jones was grinding through a pizza eating challenge and clearly fading when he called out for his longtime rival to come bail him out. His exact words: “I’ve never wanted to see Daniel Cormier more than I want to see him right now. Tag in brother.”
Tag-team pizza isn’t a recognized format. The post didn’t say how much pie was on the table or whether Jones got it all down, so for now the result goes in the books as a no contest.

The timing is funnier than the cheese. Earlier in the week, Colby Covington, Jones’ old roommate at Iowa Central Community College, went after him in an interview with Ariel Helwani. The trigger was Gable Steveson, the Olympic gold medalist Jones has been mentoring. Sean Sharaf knocked Steveson out in 12 seconds at UFC 331 on Sept. 19 in Los Angeles, with Jones in Steveson’s corner, and Covington pinned the bad vibes squarely on Jones while piling on a long list of personal attacks.
Jones answered on social media. He reminded Covington that “It was [Kamaru] Usman who broke your face, not me,” and described himself as “an undefeated fighter living the absolute American dream.” He also pointed out that Steveson had finished every opponent in the first round before Sharaf caught him.
Covington fired back on X with more of the same, then wrapped it by telling Steveson to ditch Jones and “go train with a real man like Daniel Cormier.”

So the name Covington swung at Jones on Wednesday night was the same name Jones was yelling for by Thursday night, when the crust started winning. Whether that was a deliberate wink, Jones didn’t say. Spinnin Backfist summed up the week on X by calling it the annual Jones vs. Covington beef, and nobody has argued.
The record talk kept rolling, too. Argentine broadcaster Gaston “Tonga” Reyno ran a poll on X asking which mark is harder to reach, Floyd Mayweather’s 50-0 in boxing or Jones’ 28-1 in MMA. Jones, for his part, keeps calling himself undefeated, and nothing that happened at the table this week changes his math.
No word on Jones’ next fight came with the clip. The more pressing question in his camp is Steveson, who Covington said may not come back at all without a change of scenery.

My take: in a week full of name-calling, the most honest thing anybody said came from a guy staring down a pile of pizza and admitting he needed help. Jones has spent a career refusing to concede anything to Cormier. It took about a dozen slices to get him to ask for a tag.
