Joaquin Buckley Carried a Two-Fight Skid Into Mike Malott's Backyard in Edmonton

The No. 8 welterweight came to Rogers Place off losses to Kamaru Usman and Sean Brady, with a home-country Canadian across the cage and two UFC debuts stacked on the main card.

The UFC returned to Edmonton on Saturday, October 17, for the first time since 2024, and Rogers Place got a welterweight headliner built for violence: No. 8 Joaquin Buckley against No. 11 Mike Malott. UFC.com’s E. Spencer Kyte ran live coverage through the night, with separate pages for the prelim results, the main card results and the official scorecards, which carry every judge’s round-by-round tally from the event. The prelims started at 5pm ET and the main card at 8pm ET, streaming on Paramount+ in the United States.

The main event

Buckley (21-8) fights out of St. Louis and built his name on highlight-reel knockouts. He went north needing one, because his last two trips to the Octagon ended in defeats to Kamaru Usman and then Sean Brady. Losing three straight while ranked in the top 10 is a tough spot to climb out of at 170 pounds.

Malott (14-2-1) had the crowd. He trains out of Fonthill, Ontario, and UFC.com billed him as a Canadian superstar heading into the night. Three spots below Buckley in the rankings, he had a clear chance to jump into the top 10 on home soil.

The co-main and the rest of the main card

The co-main put two top-six flyweights in the cage. No. 3 Erin Blanchfield (14-2, Elmwood Park, NJ) faced No. 6 Jasmine Jasudavicius (15-4, Niagara, Ontario), another Canadian with the arena behind her.

Lightweights opened the main card, with Dana White’s Contender Series standout Mandel Nallo (14-4, 1 NC, Montreal) against Nate Landwehr (18-8, Clarksville, TN), a matchup UFC.com pitched as all-action before a single punch landed.

Louis Jourdain (9-3, Montreal) made his UFC debut after coming through the Contender Series. He’s the younger brother of Charles Jourdain, and he drew Timmy Cuamba (10-4, Las Vegas) for his first walk.

Middleweight veterans Marc-Andre Barriault (17-11, 1 NC) and Kyle Daukaus (17-5, 1 NC) also met. Barriault fights out of Deerfield Beach, FL by way of Gatineau, Quebec, and Daukaus represents Philadelphia.

Canadian featherweight Kyle Nelson (17-7-1, Stoney Creek, Ontario) had the job of welcoming Cristian Perez (15-2, Ensenada, Baja California, Mexico) to the Octagon. Perez came up through the Contender Series and arrived with only two losses on his record.

Full outcomes for every bout, including the prelims, along with the judges’ cards, are posted on UFC.com’s results and scorecard pages.

My take: this card was stacked with exactly the fights I care about. Two Contender Series grads made their debuts on a main card in Canada, one of them carrying a famous last name. Barriault and Daukaus are veterans who rarely give you a quiet 15 minutes. Then the headliner, where Buckley had everything riding on whether his right hand still did what it did before Usman and Brady slowed him down. Pull up the scorecards for Blanchfield vs. Jasudavicius first. Two top-six flyweights is the fight on this card most likely to come down to judging.
