Ismael Bonfim Missed Weight by 7.5 Pounds, Then Francisco Prado Ballooned to 190

Bonfim hit 163.5 for a 156-pound fight, and 24 hours later Prado posted a scale photo showing he'd packed on 35 pounds.

Ismael Bonfim was supposed to be the big guy in this fight. That lasted about a day. Francisco Prado took to Instagram on Saturday with a photo of a scale reading 190 pounds, which by his own count is 35 pounds gained in 24 hours since Friday’s weigh-ins, and MMA Mania picked it up after the clip circulated on X. Prado and Bonfim meet at lightweight tonight (Oct. 10, 2026) at UFC Vegas 122, streaming on Paramount+ from the Meta Apex in Las Vegas.

The backstory is ugly for Bonfim. The Brazilian veteran stepped on the scale Friday morning at 163.5 pounds, a full 7.5 pounds over the 156-pound limit for a non-title lightweight bout. That’s a miss you can’t blame on a bad last hour in the sauna. Prado agreed to take the fight anyway and pockets 25% of Bonfim’s purse for his trouble.

Do the subtraction on Prado’s post and he made weight around 155, then refilled like a man who hadn’t seen a buffet since the summer. A 35-pound swing is a lot for anybody. For a lightweight it’s borderline cartoonish, and it means the Argentine will very likely be the heavier fighter when the door closes, which is the exact opposite of what everyone assumed on Friday afternoon.

Prado has been on bigger stages recently. He was on the UFC 327 card in Miami in April, posing on the scale at the ceremonial weigh-in at Kaseya Center on April 10. Now he’s headed to the Apex against a guy who couldn’t get within shouting distance of the limit.

The betting previews from Action Network, Yahoo Sports and DraftKings Network all went up Saturday morning, and MMA Mania’s write-up on Prado’s scale photo landed later in the day. If you’re shopping a line tonight, check whether your book has moved since the post started making the rounds. The sharp crowd tends to pounce on weigh-in news, and the casual crowd pounces even harder on a viral photo of a scale.

Sal’s quick take

I’ve been burned enough times betting on scale photos to tell you rehydration weight is a stat that looks better on Instagram than it does in Round 3. Mass doesn’t throw punches. Still, the more telling number here is Bonfim’s 163.5. A fighter who misses by 7.5 pounds usually either gave up on the cut early or fought his body the whole way down and lost, and neither version tends to show up with fresh lungs. Meanwhile Prado made the weight, collected a quarter of his opponent’s money, and then ate his way into a size advantage he wasn’t supposed to have. I’m leaning Prado, and I’d want him a lot more if he’s still at a reasonable price after the market digests that photo. If the books have already shoved him to a number where you’re laying serious juice, pass and save it for a live underdog later on the card. A guy who misses weight that badly gets zero benefit of the doubt from me, and I’m not paying a premium to find out whether 190 pounds of Argentine is enough to cash it.
