Floyd Mayweather thinks there’s another payday sitting between him and Conor McGregor. Appearing on the PBD Podcast, the 50-0 boxing legend said a rematch of their 2017 crossover fight could still happen, and Bloody Elbow framed the comments as coming despite Dana White’s lack of interest in running it back.
“Actually, I think me and Conor McGregor may lock up again. Yeah, absolutely,” Mayweather said, before taking a jab at the Irishman’s injury history. “He didn’t break his hand, he broke his foot, right? OK, we’re going from the shoulders.”
He also took a shot at McGregor’s persona, claiming the former two-division UFC champ borrowed his act. “You mean the guy that took my whole swag and took it over there to the UFC?” Mayweather said when asked where McGregor ranks as a promoter.

How the first one went
The original was Mayweather’s final pro fight. McGregor won a few of the early rounds before Mayweather wore him down and got the TKO in Round 10, closing his career at 50-0. The disclosed purses were $100 million for Mayweather and $30 million for McGregor, which dwarfed McGregor’s biggest disclosed UFC check of $3 million from his 2016 rematch with Nate Diaz. Mayweather now claims he walked away with something closer to $300 million. He didn’t put a number on McGregor’s take, though he was confident his opponent ate well.
Asked whether the two are on good terms, Mayweather shrugged it off. “I don’t live with Conor McGregor, he’s not my friend,” he said, adding that he’d sit down over dinner if that’s what it takes to get the fight made.

McGregor’s situation
The timing is rough for McGregor. His long-awaited comeback against Max Holloway at UFC 329 in July was his first fight since 2021, and it lasted 69 seconds before referee Mike Beltran stepped in to save a visibly compromised McGregor. He’s now sidelined with a knee injury from that bout. The 38-year-old has repeatedly said he plans to fight out the last bout on his UFC contract in 2027 and then hit free agency, which is the only real path to a boxing rematch that doesn’t run through White.
Mayweather also has a crowded dance card. Ryan Garcia said on social media that he and Mayweather have agreed to fight for the WBC welterweight title. “It’s real and he wants to do a real fight at 147,” Garcia said. Eddie Hearn told Boxing News that Garcia vs. Mayweather is happening and that he expects Floyd to win.

My take
I watched McGregor’s knee give out against Holloway in barely a minute, and Mayweather wants to book him for 12 rounds of boxing? McGregor still owes the UFC a fight, he’s rehabbing, and Floyd apparently has Garcia penciled in at 147 first. This is a podcast flex from a man who knows McGregor’s name still moves money. Until McGregor actually walks out for that final UFC fight in 2027 and comes out of it healthy, Mayweather vs. McGregor 2 lives in the same place it has for nine years, which is Floyd’s mouth.
