Conor McGregor went motivational late Wednesday. The post landed just after midnight GMT on Oct. 15, and for once the topic was fighting.
He wrote on X:
I was saying this back in 2014. Two years later, I held both belts.
View post on XThere was no perfect run to that night.
If you’ve taken a knock, look at it straight. Keep what worked. Change what didn’t. Go again.
Back yourself. Do the work.

The timeline holds up. McGregor signed with the UFC in 2013, won five straight, and took the interim featherweight title from Chad Mendes at UFC 189. Then he knocked out José Aldo in 13 seconds at UFC 194, which is still the fastest finish in UFC title fight history. At UFC 205 in 2016 he beat Eddie Alvarez for the lightweight belt and became the first fighter to hold UFC titles in two weight classes at the same time. He had already pulled off the same double at Cage Warriors in 2012, so the man has a habit.
The knocks he’s talking about are on the record. He lost to Floyd Mayweather Jr. by 10th-round TKO in boxing, then came back to MMA and was submitted by Khabib Nurmagomedov at UFC 229. That fight drew 2.4 million pay-per-view buys, the most ever for an MMA event. Losing has never hurt his gate. McGregor is now 22-7, sits No. 27 at welterweight in the Knockout Daily rankings and last fought on July 11, 2026.
The post caps a busy week online. He joined TikTok and hit 100,000 followers in six hours, according to @DovySimuMMA. Bruce Buffer also told Helen Yee that McGregor, Alex Pereira and Jon Jones are the only fighters who deserve his “The one the only” introduction.

The post doesn’t name an opponent, a date or a weight class, so there’s nothing to handicap yet. It’s fine as a pep talk. I’ll start paying attention to the 2014 callback when it comes with a bout sheet attached. McGregor turned 38 in July, and the number next to his name in the rankings is 27. Until a matchup gets announced, I’m leaving my money in my pocket. It’s the only place it has ever been safe.
