The UFC posted its full Countdown episode for UFC 334 on Sunday, Nov. 8, putting the two fights carrying the Madison Square Garden card front and center. Amanda Nunes defends the bantamweight title against Kayla Harrison, and Ciryl Gane meets Josh Hokit at heavyweight. The episode, sponsored by Polymarket, went up on the UFC’s YouTube channel and on UFC.com. The promotion also posted stand-alone Countdown segments for both matchups and a separate fight promo for Gane vs. Hokit. A Reddit user had the full episode up on r/MMA by Sunday afternoon, which is usually where the comment-section breakdowns start before anyone has finished watching.
The Gane half of the episode arrives with some fresh heat attached. Two days earlier, Gane told RMC Sport Combat that Hokit’s trash talk won’t work on him unless Hokit goes after his mother, according to a clip shared by RedCorner MMA on X. It reads like a fighter trying to project calm, and maybe it is. Luke Thomas saw the obvious problem right away and quoted the clip with a one-line reply: “Well, now he’s going to target her, dude.” That’s the risk of telling a trash talker which door is unlocked. Whether Hokit walks through it during fight week is now the most watchable subplot on the heavyweight side.
The Nunes and Harrison segment lands after an odd few days for both women outside the cage. On Saturday, Aaron Rupar posted on X a statement attributed to President Donald Trump announcing that Dana White had been offered the job of White House press secretary. The statement said White should bring along a group of assistants that included Islam Makhachev, Khabib Nurmagomedov, Justin Gaethje, Daniel Cormier, Amanda Nunes and “Kayla Harris,” a misspelling of Harrison’s name. Gunther Eagleman and Eric Daugherty both amplified it on X, while Connor Ewing asked whether the whole thing had been a mix-up. None of the posts included a response from White, Nunes or Harrison, and there was nothing to suggest it changes anything about the fight.

What the sources don’t include is just as important as what they do. The UFC’s posts don’t come with records, recent results or odds, and the Countdown package itself doesn’t explain anything about the event’s date or the order of the card beyond naming the two featured bouts. Fans hoping for a trailer full of numbers will need to watch the footage and draw their own conclusions about each fighter’s camp.

My take is short. Gane handed Hokit a script on French television and then sat for a Countdown shoot, and I’d love to know how many takes it took before somebody in the room brought up his mother. A heavyweight who wants to stay calm usually keeps the line he won’t tolerate to himself. Gane said his out loud, and for the rest of fight week, every Hokit microphone moment is going to be measured against that one sentence.
