Preston LaGrange knocked out Nell Ariano with punches at 2:24 of Round 1 in a light heavyweight bout at Dana White’s Contender Series: Season 10, Week 9, a result that tore up the plan on a night Ariano’s camp had already been celebrating.
The official result lists it as a stoppage. MMA Junkie’s results post on X specified the method as a knockout via punches, and its video post went further, describing the finish as LaGrange stunning Ariano with a “short-notice KO.”
The upset call
The loudest reaction came from MMA Junkie, which went full caps lock with “PRESTON LAGRANGE WITH THE UPSET!” and followed it by tagging him with the nickname One Shot and asking whether he’s headed to the UFC. The clip was credited to @jeroguerra10. Calling a two-minute-and-change knockout an upset tells you which way the room was leaning before the cage door shut, and if that nickname is his, he picked a good night to make it literal.

That’s the whole of the praise in the posts pulled for this story. Nobody piled on Ariano, and no fighters weighed in with breakdowns of the exchange, at least not in what’s available here.

How this became the main event
The more interesting thread started before the fight. Earlier in the evening, Nolan King (@mma_kings) shared an updated bout order, quoting @1khathaway, who wrote that there were “Changes to the initial lineup of tonight’s episode of Dana White’s Contender Series.”
Those changes apparently pushed this fight to the top. The account @danawhiteslocks asked, “Why and when did Nell Ariano vs LaGrange become the main event?” Cage Warriors answered with the cheekiest post of the night: “When we decided it was main event and Uncle Dana agreed,” punctuated with a thumbs up and a French flag.

Cage Warriors had been all in on Ariano from the jump. Before the card, the promotion posted “Tonight’s The Night” and told fans to tune in on UFC Fight Pass “to watch Nell Ariano headline and earn a UFC contract,” again with the French flag attached. That second half aged badly inside of a single round. Bold of them to predict the contract, and rough to watch the other guy cash the moment instead.
The promo machine
Dana White’s own account was in hype mode right before the walkouts, posting “La Grange vs Ariano is LIVE NEXT” on Paramount Plus (spelling LaGrange as two words). UFC Brasil pushed the card to Portuguese-speaking viewers, writing “Tudo pronto para o Dana White’s Contender Series de hoje!” with the broadcast set for 20h on Paramount Plus Brazil. MMA Junkie ran live updates from 7 p.m. ET and a photo gallery from Las Vegas, labeling the night Dana White’s Contender Series 95.

Callouts and what’s next
No callouts. Not one in the posts gathered here, and no word yet in these sources on whether LaGrange earned a contract. MMA Junkie’s question about whether he’s UFC bound is still sitting there unanswered.
And I love this kind of Contender Series night: a reshuffled lineup, a promotion openly lobbying for its guy to headline, and an opponent everyone treated as the B-side turning the lights out before the round was even half over. If White hands LaGrange a contract, the most memorable line from the whole episode will still belong to Cage Warriors, who got the main event slot they asked for and watched the wrong fighter win it.
