Buckley vs. Malott Winner Takes the Mic in Edmonton After Three Fights Fell Apart

The No. 8 vs. No. 11 welterweight headliner closed a Rogers Place card that lost three original matchups, and the winners now face the press with bonus checks on the line.

Microphones lined up on a press conference table before fighters arrive

UFC Edmonton’s post-fight press conference is streaming from Rogers Place, where the winners from Saturday’s card (Oct. 17, 2026) are taking questions after a welterweight main event between Joaquin Buckley and Mike Malott. MMA Mania’s Dan Hiergesell wrote that the presser was scheduled to go live around 11:15 p.m. ET. The stream is also where the official bonus winners get read out. UFC CEO Dana White could appear too, though Hiergesell treated that as a hope more than a promise. Sherdog has posted the full press conference.

The headliner carried real ranking weight. MMA Weekly listed Buckley at No. 8 and Malott at No. 11 at 170 pounds, so whoever had his hand raised leaves Edmonton with a stronger claim in a crowded division. Both men came in with reputations as finishers, and the matchup was booked with that in mind.

The co-main event put women’s flyweight contender Erin Blanchfield across from Jasmine Jasudavicius, the Canadian veteran, at 125 pounds. Further down the main card, Mandel Nallo met Nate Landwehr in a lightweight fight that MMA Mania billed as a likely barnburner. Kyle Nelson faced Cristian Perez at 155, Marc-André Barriault took on Kyle Daukaus at middleweight, and Louis Jourdain fought Timmy Cuamba at bantamweight. The main card aired on Paramount+ at 8 p.m. ET, with prelims starting at 5 p.m. ET.

The card that had to be rebuilt

The Edmonton lineup didn’t reach fight night in its original shape. According to the r/MMA event thread, three bouts were scrapped. Louie Sutherland withdrew from his heavyweight fight with Javad Mahjoub, and Mahjoub ended up facing Joel Faglier instead. Jamey-Lyn Horth was hurt and pulled out of her flyweight bout with Katlyn Cerminara, who drew Mackenzie Stiller. Gilbert Urbina withdrew from a middleweight fight with Julien Leblanc, and Leblanc was matched with Nick Galanti.

The rest of the 13-fight card included Tanner Boser vs. Jhonata Diniz at heavyweight, Chad Anheliger vs. Steven Koslow and Melissa Croden vs. Chelsea Chandler at 135, and Soo Young Yoo vs. Cody Chovancek, also at bantamweight. MMA Mania picked out Perez, Jourdain and Mahjoub as rising names to watch.

The main-event winner will get most of the microphone time, and he’s earned it, because a win over a ranked opponent in the top 11 means something at welterweight. What I’d watch for is the bottom of the dais. Faglier, Stiller and Galanti each stepped in after the original opponent dropped out, and the replacement fighter usually has the better story. Ask how the call came in, where they were when it did, and who in the gym got them ready. That’s the material worth writing down, and the bonus announcements will tell us whether the UFC noticed those fighters too.
