Brendan Allen submitted Christian Leroy Duncan at 2:46 of Round 5 to win the middleweight main event of UFC Fight Night: Allen vs. Duncan.
That’s the kind of finish that makes the timeline sit up straight. You spend 22 minutes and change watching two guys trade real estate, the scorecard math starts running in your head, and then somebody’s neck gets wrapped up. Allen didn’t hand his night to the judges, and the reaction posts were mostly people scrambling to type fast enough.
The praise
The fight-account crowd hit the post button almost immediately. Championship Rounds (@ChampRDS) kept it simple: “Brendan Allen just finished Christian Leroy Duncan in the fifth round 👀” That eyeball emoji is doing a lot of work, and it’s the right call. A fifth-round finish in a main event deserves at least one raised eyebrow.

Spinnin Backfist (@SpinninBackfist) went full caps lock first, writing “ALLEN GETS THE 5TH ROUND SUB,” then followed up with a clip and a verdict: “What a finish.” ESPN MMA (@espnmma) matched the volume with “BRENDAN ALLEN GETS THE SUBMISSION WIN IN THE FINAL ROUND AGAINST CHRISTIAN LEROY DUNCAN 👏”, which is about as close as a corporate account gets to standing on its chair.

MMA Junkie (@MMAJunkie) brought the cleanest line of the night, writing that “Brendan Allen puts the stamp on CLD with a fifth-round choke in the #UFCVegas122 main event.” Putting the stamp on it is the correct phrase for a guy who closed the show with a little over two minutes left.
The jokes (some of them accidental)
Respect to Spinnin Backfist for the energy, but the second post read “Brenden Allen snatches the choke in round 5.” Brenden. With an E. Allen ended the main event of the night and still couldn’t get his name spelled right by the people cheering for him. That’s fight Twitter in one sentence.

And this card had an Allen problem in the best way. Earlier in the night, Allen Frye Jr. scored a knockout over Harris, and Spinnin Backfist posted “Allen Frye Jr Knocks out Harris” before following it with a one-word, all-caps reaction of pure shock. MMA Fighting (@MMAFighting) pointed out that it was Frye’s first UFC win, and he got it with a big knockout. So if you saw Allen trending and assumed the main event was over early, you weren’t crazy. You were just one Allen off.
Dana White (@danawhite) handled the pregame hype himself, posting “Duncan has arrived to the arena!” and then “Allen has arrived to the arena!” before announcing “Allen vs Duncan is LIVE NEXT on @paramountplus!” Arrived to the arena. The boss runs a billion-dollar promotion and posts like your uncle checking in at a Buffalo Wild Wings.

The criticism
None surfaced. Not one post in the reaction pile took a shot at Allen, Duncan, the stoppage or the referee. Fight Twitter replies usually turn into a robbery debate within 90 seconds, so that’s about as clean a verdict as you’ll get.
What’s next
Here’s where it gets quiet. No fighter publicly called out Allen in the posts that came through after the finish, and Allen’s own next move didn’t show up either. Nobody fired a shot, nobody tagged him, nobody asked for the matchup. A guy who just choked out a main event opponent in Round 5 shouldn’t have to wait long for someone at 185 to pick a fight with him, and if the middleweight division is smart, somebody will be typing his name by Monday.
