Dmitry Bivol vs. Callum Smith is booked, and Eddie Hearn’s contribution to the announcement was exactly two characters long.
Hearn quote-posted Matchroom Boxing’s official announcement on X Monday morning with two fire emojis and nothing else. That was the whole message from the promoter. The company account handled the actual information.
“It’s Official! 👑 @bivol_d will defend his Unified World Light Heavyweight Championship against @CallumSmith23 in Yekaterinburg, Dec 12 😮💨 What a fight! 🔥 #BivolSmith,” Matchroom posted.

Here’s what we know. Bivol holds the unified light heavyweight championship. Smith is the man trying to take it. The fight is set for December 12 in Yekaterinburg, Russia, which gives both camps about two months from Monday’s announcement to get ready. Matchroom is promoting.
The post left out a lot. It didn’t name which specific belts make up the unified title. It didn’t list an undercard, a broadcaster, an arena or a ticket on-sale date, and nobody attached odds to it. The Matchroom post included a link, but the text itself stopped at the hashtag.
I’ll give Hearn partial credit. Two fire emojis is a lazy way to announce a world title fight, but the post he was quoting at least had a date, a city and two names in it. I’ve watched fights get teased with an hourglass and a pair of eyeballs and nothing else for three days. This one came with a location. Low bar, cleared.
What comes next
From here, the typical Matchroom rollout should follow: a press conference, a poster, and Hearn making the rounds to sell the fight in full sentences. Those interviews will be the first real chance to hear either fighter talk about the matchup, since neither Bivol nor Smith said anything in the announcement beyond being tagged.
For Smith, the date means a title shot that requires a December trip to Yekaterinburg. For Bivol, it’s a defense of a unified championship, which means more than one sanctioning body’s paperwork rides on the night.
The opening bell is December 12. Everything between now and then is Matchroom’s to fill in, ideally with words.
