Amanda Serrano Just Called Her Next Fight Her Last Walk and Wants You in the Building

The multi-division champion tagged the bout #SerranoFalzon on DAZN under the MVP banner and told her fans to show up for the finale.

Amanda Serrano says the next one is the last one. The multi-division world boxing champion posted on X on Sunday, Nov. 8, opening with “Let’s go my ppl’s” before writing “I want you there for my LAST WALK!” The capital letters are hers.

The hashtags carry most of the details. Serrano tagged the post #SerranoFalzon, #Dazn and #MVP, which points to a bout against an opponent named Falzon, streaming on DAZN, under the MVP banner. The post itself didn’t spell out a date, a venue or her opponent’s full name, so I’m not going to pretend it did. There was also a #Moat tag in there, and I’ll leave the decoding to people younger than me.

This didn’t come out of nowhere. MiddleEasy reported on Friday, Nov. 6, that Serrano described her exit as one she’s making on her own terms. The outlet said she framed the farewell as her own choice and said she’s confident in the next generation of women boxers. That’s two days of groundwork before Sunday’s post told fans where to be.

Her retirement was already part of a bigger argument about her promoter. In MMA Mania’s mailbag that same Friday, a reader grouped Serrano’s retirement with Jake Paul’s fight against Cedric Doumbe not landing on Netflix and asked whether Paul and MVP were losing their pull. Mania’s writers split on it. Thomas Myers wrote that the novelty is cooked. Jesse Holland defended Paul as good for business, but added that landing on DAZN would be a considerable step down after Netflix. Serrano’s own hashtags now put her farewell on DAZN, so take that however you like.

Sal’s take

I’ve spent decades watching fighters announce a last fight, then a last last fight, then a comeback in a smaller building against someone they’d have walked through 10 years earlier. So credit where it’s due. Serrano wrote LAST in capital letters, in public, with an opponent attached, and that’s a lot harder to walk back than some vague line about seeing how she feels. I don’t have a betting line in front of me yet, and I won’t make one up. Once the book posts a number on Serrano vs. Falzon, the farewell crowd will hammer the favorite, and I’ll be the grump in the corner checking whether the price makes any sense. My rule on emotional send-offs hasn’t changed in 30 years. You can buy a ticket for the goodbye. You don’t have to bet on it. Watch for the official date and venue, and for whether the price on Falzon drifts once the sentimental money arrives.
