Dana White spent UFC 333 fight week answering questions on two fronts: whether Bellator lightweight champion Usman Nurmagomedov is headed to the UFC, and what the heavyweight title picture looks like going forward. MiddleEasy reported that White addressed Nurmagomedov’s availability and the UFC’s interest, along with the state of the heavyweight championship, ahead of Saturday’s card.
The Nurmagomedov question has been hanging around for a while. He holds Bellator gold at lightweight, and any move to the UFC would drop him into a division that already has plenty going on. MiddleEasy’s summary covered White’s comments on the subject without spelling out a timeline, so file this under talk until someone posts a contract.
The Volkov moment
The best exchange of the week came at Thursday’s UFC 333 press conference, when Alexander Volkov asked White directly how to get a title shot. Championship Rounds posted the back-and-forth on X.

White opened with, “How old are you? What are you looking for, how can we help you?”
Volkov kept it simple: “I want to become UFC champion. What should I do to get a title shot?”
White’s answer: “Talk to Sean and Mick.”

The clip spread fast. Happy Punch wrote that White didn’t recognize Volkov at first, while DovySimuMMA figured White was only pretending not to know who he was. Either way, Volkov got two first names and zero promises.
Lightweight is getting crowded
The lightweight title picture is where White sounded most open. He told Nina Drama on Friday that it would be hard to deny Alexander Volkanovski another shot at the lightweight title if he wins at UFC 333, according to MMA Orbit.
That’s one more name in the line, and Nurmagomedov would land right in the middle of it if he ever comes over.

There’s also an unconfirmed report clouding things further. Championship Rounds, citing AgFight, posted that Islam Makhachev vs. Carlos Prates is off UFC 336 in January, a fight that had been set to headline the card. When Nina Drama asked White about the report, his full response was, “Ah. Interesting.” That’s neither a confirmation nor a denial, and the UFC hasn’t made any announcement off the back of it.
Quick take
I’ll give Volkov credit. He did what most contenders won’t, which is walk up to the guy in charge and ask the question out loud. Fighters who answer questions straight are rare, and fighters who ask them straight are rarer. He got a punchline back, and honestly, “Talk to Sean and Mick” is about as straight as White gets. The Nurmagomedov stuff is still smoke for now. The thing that actually moves the lightweight picture happens Saturday, Oct. 24, when Volkanovski fights at UFC 333 and finds out whether White meant what he told Nina Drama.
