Alex Pereira Puts His Entire Fight Purse on the Line to Shut Up Valter Walker

Walker said he wants to fight Pereira, so Pereira told him to come spar first, with the whole check going to Walker if he wins.

Alex Pereira has a counteroffer for Valter Walker. Walker said he wants to fight him, and Pereira answered by publicly inviting the heavyweight to come spar, promising to hand over his entire fight purse if Walker wins the session.

The challenge started circulating on r/MMA early Tuesday, October 13. No number was attached to the purse, and nobody spelled out how a sparring session gets scored or who decides a winner. Those seem like details a man with Walker’s interest in the money would want settled before he packs a mouthguard.

Pereira also had something to say to the people in his comments. The post shared alongside the challenge had him laughing at critics who show up whenever he brings up money. “Have you noticed that whenever I talk about money, it’s always the broke people who come into the comments trying to hate?” he wrote, before suggesting readers check those accounts and adding that “they’re the type of person who borrowed money from their father-in-law and then started an argument just so they’d have an excuse not to pay him back.” He capped it with a pile of laughing emojis, which tells you how much sleep he’s losing over it.

The post doesn’t include a response from Walker.

A loud week around Pereira

This is the second time in a few days Pereira has ended up on the other end of somebody’s tough talk. On Saturday, October 10, Happy Punch posted a clip of a streamer calling Pereira a bitch to his face. The reply in the clip was calm enough to be a little scary: “Are you okay? You’re gonna get hurt for no reason. Go play somewhere else.” Coach Tim Welch reposted it with his own review, writing on X that “a severe ass whooping is so good for people.”

That same Saturday, Pereira’s coach Plinio Cruz made his Misfits Boxing debut and won by second-round TKO, according to posts from Championship Rounds and Spinnin Backfist. Cruz didn’t save all his aggression for the ring, either. Happy Punch posted footage of him going after Chase DeMoor, telling him, “You’re a pssy. Nothing but an insecure little bitch. I’m gonna whoop your fcking ass.” Pereira, per the clip, was enjoying every second of it.

Then on Sunday, Bruce Buffer told Helen Yee that only three fighters deserve his “The one the only” introduction: Conor McGregor, Jon Jones and Pereira. That’s a short list, and Pereira is on it with two guys who’ve moved a lot of pay-per-views.

The take

I like this from both sides. Walker wanted Pereira’s name in his mouth, and Pereira gave him a price tag instead of a press release. A heavyweight calling out a guy who gets introduced like McGregor is a smart business move, and a champion-level striker offering his whole purse over a sparring round is the kind of confidence that either makes a great story or a very expensive one. The catch is that gym sparring has no judges and no commission, so unless somebody agrees on rules and puts a camera in the room, this stays a dare. Walker’s next move is simple. Say yes, name the gym and pick a date.
