Alex Pereira Gets Emotional After Sister Aline Comes Up Short on Contender Series

Aline Pereira dropped a unanimous decision to Smilla Sundell at Contender Series 96, and both siblings have spoken out since.

Alex Pereira spoke up for his little sister this week, and by every account it was heartfelt, with no trash talk in it.

Zamin.uz reported Friday that the former two-division UFC champion issued an emotional statement after Aline Pereira lost her bid for a UFC contract on Dana White’s Contender Series. The full text of his message wasn’t in the material we had, so we’re not putting words in his mouth. Aline followed with her own reaction, which Yahoo Sports and Heavy both covered Saturday.

The fight itself was simple enough. Aline met Smilla Sundell at Contender Series 96 on Oct. 13 and lost a unanimous decision, which leaves her without a UFC deal for now.

Who Aline Pereira is

She’s a lot more than somebody’s sister. Aline, who turned 36 a week before the fight, is the inaugural and current Karate Combat women’s flyweight champion. She debuted there by knocking out Dee Begley in the first round at Karate Combat 50 in October 2024. In kickboxing she got as far as a Glory super bantamweight title shot against Tiffany van Soest in January 2021, losing a decision.

The MMA side has been bumpier. Her listed record goes like this:

  • A decision loss to Helen Peralta in her LFA debut (November 2022)
  • A decision win over Chelsea Conner
  • A decision loss to Cheyanne Bowers
  • A split decision over Jade Masson-Wong at MVP MMA 1 in May 2026

The Sundell fight makes three losses in five listed MMA bouts, and every one of them went the distance.

She has been grinding to get here, too. Aline has worked Amazon delivery shifts while training in the United States to support herself and her son. She told MMA Fighting in 2025 that juggling deliveries and training wore her down, and that she hoped to eventually make her living from fighting alone.

Big brother’s calendar

Alex, meanwhile, has his own business. He sits at No. 6 at heavyweight in the Knockout Daily rankings with a 13-4 record, and he last fought June 14. He also found time this week to post a skit featuring three UFC belts, per Dovy on X, which tells you where his head’s at.

His next assignment is Sergei Pavlovich at UFC 335 on Dec. 12. Aline still has a Karate Combat belt to defend, and a brother who will be in a heavyweight fight against one of the division’s hardest punchers two months from now.
